ArchiveMD Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 31, 2026
ArchiveMD is a Chrome extension that exports user-selected X and Reddit pages into local Markdown files and AI context packs.
ArchiveMD is local-first in V1. It does not run an ArchiveMD backend, does not upload exported content to ArchiveMD servers, and does not sell user data.
Single Purpose
ArchiveMD's single purpose is to let users export supported X and Reddit content into local Markdown files and ZIP context packs.
Information ArchiveMD Handles
ArchiveMD handles only the information needed to provide the export feature after the user clicks Capture page.
This may include:
- Visible X post, thread, and bookmark content.
- Visible Reddit post, saved-item, and comment content.
- Source URLs, canonical URLs, author names, timestamps, and capture timestamps.
- Media URLs and outbound links shown on supported pages.
- Capture-quality notes when a page hides, collapses, blocks, or lazy-loads content.
ArchiveMD does not intentionally collect:
- Passwords.
- Authentication cookies.
- Session tokens.
- Payment information.
- Private keys or API keys.
How ArchiveMD Uses Information
ArchiveMD uses captured page content to:
- Render Markdown.
- Build local ZIP context packs.
-
Generate
index.md,summary.md,prompt.md,manifest.json, and per-item Markdown files. - Show capture progress, partial-failure notes, and export warnings in the extension popup.
Local Processing And Storage
ArchiveMD processes captures in the user's browser.
Exported Markdown files and ZIP context packs are saved only when the user clicks a download action. Chrome saves those files to the user's selected downloads location.
ArchiveMD V1 does not create hosted accounts, sync user data, or store exported content on ArchiveMD-controlled servers.
Data Sharing
ArchiveMD does not sell, rent, or transfer captured page content for advertising, retargeting, profiling, or analytics.
ArchiveMD does not share exported content with AI tools automatically. If a user uploads exported files to Claude, ChatGPT, NotebookLM, Cursor, Obsidian, or another tool, that upload is initiated by the user and governed by that tool's terms and privacy policy.
ArchiveMD may preserve public media URLs and source links inside exported Markdown so the user can trace material back to its original page. ArchiveMD does not download protected media.
Analytics
ArchiveMD's initial dogfood and V1 builds do not include ArchiveMD analytics.
If analytics are added in a future version, this policy and the extension UI will be updated before release.
Chrome Permissions
ArchiveMD requests Chrome permissions only to support user-initiated export:
activeTab: capture the supported page the user is viewing after they click the extension.scripting: run local capture code on supported pages.downloads: save Markdown and ZIP files after the user requests a download.- X and Reddit host permissions: capture supported X and Reddit pages and detail pages.
ArchiveMD opens and closes supported X and Reddit detail tabs during
user-initiated bulk export, but it does not request Chrome's broad
tabs permission. ArchiveMD does not use its permissions to
collect unrelated browsing history.
Limited Use Statement
ArchiveMD's use of website content and related page information is limited to the user-facing export feature described in the Chrome Web Store listing and the extension popup.
ArchiveMD does not use or transfer this information for advertising, retargeting, creditworthiness, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the export feature.
Policy Hosting
This privacy policy is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process visitor IP addresses and related technical information for security and service operation under Cloudflare's own policies.
Changes
ArchiveMD may update this policy as the product changes. Any future hosted sync, account system, analytics, payment integration, or AI summarization feature must be reflected in this policy before release.
